In 2015 fifty five people lost their lives in work related activities in Ireland. This is the same as the number of deaths recorded in 2014. When asked to comment on the 2015 figures Brian Higgisson who is the assistant Chief Executive of the Health and Safety Authority said the authority will focus all of its resources in preventing workplace deaths in 2016.
He also stated authority inspectors will concentrate on health risks such as manual handling, exposure to dust, noise and asbestos as they are responsible for the majority of days lost in the workplace.
