The Work Relations Act
Comes into force in October 2015. The purpose of the Act is to reduce the number of statutory agencies dealing with employment law related issued in the workplace down to two bodies. The work relations commission will replace the Labour Relations Commission, NERA, The Equality Tribunal and The Employment Appeals Tribunal.
The Labour Court will continue to exist and will function as a court of appeal. In future employment rights complaints will be dealt with by a single Adjudication Officer. If complaints are not resolved satisfactorily through a mediated settlement facilitated by the workplace relations early resolution service or by the adjudicating officer the complaint will be referred to the Labour Court for decision.
