Closure Orders Served
Ten closure orders were served on food businesses in Ireland in March 2016 relating to breaches of food safety and hygiene regulations.
When commenting on these enforcement notices, Dr. Pamela Byrne Chief Executive of the FSAI stated there can be no justification for such breaches as they have the potential to put consumer health at risk. Furthermore they undermine peoples confidence in the safety of the food which they eat.
Breaches of food safety and hygiene regulations can result in food business operators paying court fines and costly legal expenses in dealing with claims brought by official state agencies. For example a leading hotel was fined €1500.00 for breaches of food safety and hygiene regulations and incurred legal costs of €2231.00 when successfully prosecuted by the H.S.E. in March 2016.
